After realizing that he wasn’t going to be captured and shot by multiple gunmen, Matt became even more appreciative of his life and wrote this song:

As we huddled in the corner waiting for the shots to fire 
I knew I could never have it any other way

As I scribbled on the ticket in my pocket left to pay
“I love my family, friends, and five adoring fans.
And put my body in some pine trees at the foot of college hill
Give my possessions so they’ll lend a helping hand.”

My thoughts are like an ocean raining onto tin:
“Am I sure I’ll ever make it home?”
Well if showers come in bullets or in grey and stormy skies, 
We’ll share the shelter and we don’t have to hide alone.

As the minutes seem like hours and the day is nearly spent
From time to time we act like we forget
Neither hurricane nor hellfire have brought us down before
It takes some work to kick a pirate off his deck

When people all around me claim that death is at their door
And it’s just campus living doing rounds
My mind kicks at my heart as it tries to make some sense
Least that’s the only organ laying on the ground

But all jokes aside I’m grateful, I was sure that I was dead
Even those 10 seconds set me right
Cause anyone can lecture til their brains come out their ears
But now I’m really thankful when I get to sleep at night
